Unique Records is a label focused on the development of quality songs and songwriters in (mainly but not exclusively) Soul, Funk, Psychedelia & Kraut Rock.
Unique Records was founded by DJ Henry Storch in 1988 as a home for Garage, Thrash and 60s flavoured Beat. Between 1988 and 1993 Henry Storch put out as many as twenty 45 singles and one album of the almost legendary Prime Movers “Sins Of The Forefathers”. Other acts on the label by that time included Thee Milkshakes, The Tommyknockers, The Embryonics, Heartbeats, Wylde Mammoths and others.
Unique Records took a timeout as Henry Storch set up his own Unique Club venue in 1995 in Düsseldorf.
The Unique Club has gained an international reputation as one of europes top leftfield dance / club venues with a similar credibility such as the Mojo Club, Into Something and the Jazz Cafe as well as the former UK Blue Note.
In 2005, the Unique Club celebrated the 10th anniversary but had to be closed one year later when the lease agreement expired. Unique Records was already re-established in 1998.
Since then Unique Records musically strongly focuses on genres like Jazz, (Northern) Soul, Funk, Rare Groove, Latin, Urban / HipHop, Psychedelia and Kraut-Rock!
In 2013 and in cooperation with SCHUBERT MUSIC Publishing Unique Records established its own publishing company – Unique Musikverlag GmbH including an edition of the legendary Haldern Pop Recordings.
With the sudden death of the founder in 2018 (in the same year as the 30th anniversary), the label had to process a lot. Since 2020 Unique Records has been part of the Schubert Music family, that already has been a loyal partner for many years. So Unique Records is ready to write some further chapters…
